Scaling sports-tech for athletes globally

TrackMan is a fast-growing Danish sports-tech company. It specializes in high-end radar and camera tracking products for golf, baseball, football, and more. Before, tasks like making our website faster and managing our content were too difficult and took too much time. That's all changed with Storyblok.

The need to streamline and scale globally

TrackMan.com was built using a traditional monolithic CMS. This solution was outdated. It came with various performance, scalability, and maintenance challenges. The CMS was difficult to configure and manage within the digital marketing team. Simple updates would need a developer’s attention. Due to limited resources, web work was often deprioritized and postponed.

It was decided that a new solution was needed. It had to be able to scale as the company grew and be straightforward to work with. Some of the main features that were considered included:

  • A built-in localization setup within the headless CMS
  • A simple and easy-to-use content delivery system via APIs
  • User roles for content editors, developers, designers, etc.
  • A WYSIWYG experience for marketers to easily make edits and publish

Adopting Storyblok to enter into new markets

The first proof of concept was ready in April 2021, and the development of the new website began in June. The team was able to fulfill the requirements they were seeking with Storyblok through:

  • A clear and transparent pricing structure with flexible package offerings

  • The ability for developers to use any technology or framework they were already familiar with

The marketing team's favorite feature was the simplicity of content localization. Currently, TrackMan is available in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Japanese, and German.

The first thing that caught our attention was Storyblok’s localization setup. It is so easy to connect, set up and utilize the locales we needed for new languages and markets.

With Storyblok's Visual Editor, developers aid in creating composable components. Then, they can give these to the marketing team to use towards new pages and campaigns. This helped TrackMan build and launch their new website in less than three months.

The editor experience inside Storyblok is incredibly smooth and easy for our team of marketers to use, where we can build new pages quickly and easily while seeing what we are working on in real-time.

Optimizing for speed and localization

Storyblok and Vercel work together to make TrackMan's website fast with optimized data delivery. TrackMan's website aims to build a stronger brand presence online. Above all, the website helps generate leads worldwide; making site speed and localization critical. On top of this, making new components takes 1 to 3 days for the developers to build. From there, this is passed on to the marketing team to use.

As a developer, I was initially hesitant about the Visual Editor. In my experience, a visual editor usually meant slow templating and code injections. Using Storyblok's Visual Editor was refreshing.
